Midwives & Mothers
As midwives (and mothers!) we are passionate about our role. All the midwives and obstetricians who take part in the workshops are employed in the hospital environment providing antenatal, labour and postnatal care on a daily basis.
Our professional and personal experiences have led us to recognise that women who have received antenatal education are more likely to have a natural birth and less likely to have complications.
All midwives teaching on our workshops are regulated by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and are members of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM). Obstetricians teaching are regulated by the General Medical Council and are members of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG).
Continual personal and professional development is paramount in maintaining our professional competencies. Courses attended have widened our knowledge on how best to support women. These include:
- Aromatherapy in labour
- Massage
- Baby massage
- Successful breast feeding (Based on UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative)
- Active Birth
- Infant monitoring
About The NMC
The Nursing and Midwifery Council is an organisation set up by Parliament to protect the public by ensuring that nurses and midwives provide high standards of care to their patients and clients.
To achieve its aims, the NMC:
- maintains a register of qualified nurses, midwives and specialist community public health nurses
- sets standards for conduct, performance and ethics
- provides advice for nurses and midwives
- considers allegations of misconduct, lack of competence or unfitness to practise due to ill health
About The GMC
The General Medical Council (GMC) registers doctors to practice medicine in the UK. Their purpose is to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public by ensuring proper standards in the practice of medicine.
